No, but it will be dusty and loud at times. Sanding drywall compound creates fine dust that gets everywhere, even with our best efforts to contain it. We use plastic sheeting to isolate the work area and run fans to control dust, but some will escape.
If you’ve got respiratory sensitivities or young kids, you might want to plan to be out during the sanding days. The actual hanging and mudding stages are much cleaner. We also do a full cleanup at the end of each day—sweeping, vacuuming, and wiping down surfaces.
Most of our North Sea clients stay home during the work. We’re usually done by late afternoon, and you’ll have your space back each evening. If your project is bigger and we’re working in a main living area, we can talk through scheduling options that minimize disruption.

New drywall installation for a room runs higher because you’re paying for material, labor, taping, multiple coats of compound, sanding, and texturing. Moisture-resistant drywall costs a bit more than standard, and specialty finishes or high ceilings add to the scope.

In bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and basements—absolutely. North Sea’s proximity to the water means humidity is a factor year-round. Standard drywall absorbs moisture, which can lead to mold, sagging, and deterioration over time.
Moisture-resistant drywall (often called green board or purple board depending on the brand) has a treated core and facing that resists moisture absorption. It’s not waterproof, but it holds up much better in high-humidity areas. For shower surrounds, you’ll want cement board or another waterproof backer, but for general bathroom walls and ceilings, moisture-resistant drywall is the right call.
If you’re repairing water-damaged drywall, we’ll recommend moisture-resistant material for the replacement even if the original wasn’t. It’s a small upcharge that prevents the same problem from happening again, especially in coastal areas like this.
