Demo usually happens in a day or two. Plumbing and electrical rough-ins come next, followed by any subfloor or wall repairs. Then tile work, which needs time to set and cure before grouting. After that, we install the vanity, fixtures, lighting, and finish trim.
Weather doesn’t slow us down much since it’s all interior work, but material delays can add time if something’s backordered. We order everything upfront to avoid that, but it’s worth building in a few extra days if you’re planning around a specific deadline.

Yes. Most of our clients stay in the house during the remodel. If you have a second bathroom, it’s not a big disruption. If it’s your only bathroom, it’s tighter, but we’ve done it plenty of times.
We’ll talk through the timeline upfront so you know when the bathroom will be out of commission. Usually, the toilet and shower are unavailable for a few days during rough plumbing and tile work. Some homeowners arrange to use a neighbor’s bathroom or a gym membership during that stretch. Others time the project around a vacation.
We keep the work area contained, clean up at the end of each day, and don’t leave tools or materials scattered around your house. The goal is to get in, do the work right, and get out without making your life harder than it needs to be.
It depends on what you’re doing. If you’re replacing fixtures, tile, and finishes without moving plumbing or electrical, you usually don’t need a permit. If you’re relocating a toilet, adding new electrical circuits, or doing structural work, you do.

Some homeowners try to skip permits to save money or time, but it’s not worth the risk. Unpermitted work can come back to haunt you during a home sale or appraisal, and if something goes wrong—like a plumbing leak or electrical fire—your insurance may not cover it.
Ventilation is the biggest factor. If your bathroom doesn’t have a proper exhaust fan, or if the one you have isn’t strong enough, moisture builds up and mold follows. The fan should be vented to the outside—not into the attic—and it should run during and after every shower. Some homeowners add a timer switch or a humidity sensor so it runs automatically. That makes a big difference in keeping moisture levels down.
Beyond ventilation, we use mold-resistant materials wherever it makes sense—cement backer board behind tile, mold-resistant drywall in areas that don’t get wet, and proper waterproofing in the shower. If there’s existing mold or water damage, we remove it completely and fix the source before we start the remodel.
It depends on your household and your plans for the home. Walk-in showers are easier to clean, more accessible as you age, and they make a small bathroom feel bigger. They’re also one of the most popular requests we get for bathroom remodels in Suffolk County.
That said, if you have young kids or you’re planning to sell in the next few years, keeping at least one tub in the house is smart. Some buyers—especially families—see a home with no tub as a dealbreaker. If you have multiple bathrooms, you’ve got more flexibility.
If you do go with a walk-in shower, think about the long term. Curbless or low-threshold designs are safer and more accessible. Built-in seating, handheld showerheads, and grab bars don’t have to look institutional—they just make the space more functional for everyone who uses it.
